BRUTAL HATE MOSH

pronounced "brutal kate moss"

this is some really beautiful and hopeful music, not exactly a regular thing for me, i remember meeting her in brisbane at a house show i was doing and after being a little stunned by how pretty she was she said something great to me about how people waste time and there was a queen who led an army to victory way back in the day at the age of 19 and then i got excitebale and started rambling about doing more and more and MORE. she gave us pictures of me and simon playing and me playing alone too and gave simon a flower saying "it wasn't that bad". it's soft and insulated pop music recorded on a tape and i love it. i can understand some of the words, "diorama" "spatula". good words.

THIS SONG IS A MESS BUT SO AM I

"is this fucking childish enough for you!"

i remember checking this guy out and reading that he had quit, he started the entire project to deal with his mother's death of cancer and he was greatful for everything he saw and the people he met, but he is done. i'm making a tape of one of his releases right now, my friend chris has it, i think he did some shows with him. "i met him a while ago, he is really straight looking, nice clothes and short hair, like a frat boy, but really really nice. we did a cool show together."

it sounds like a retarded and mean sort of disco anthem of xiu xiu songs. it's good and really dramtic and nice for when you feel that way. once every two months?

there isn't a myspace for him anymore i don't think, it's all over, but i bet if you look you can get his records.

GIRL MOUNTAIN

"halloween on brokeback mountain"

at every show ive seen simon play he has either cleared the room, been booed off stage or asked to stop. the first time i saw him play it was in his side project horsemania, three of my friends stayed to watch and the rest begged me everytime i got near them to make them stop, simon stumbled around and played his little keyboard and screamed every now and then almost completely out of time everytime "I'M LONELY AS HELL". i went back up to tour tasmania where he is from and i got to see him do his own stuff girl mountain, it's just as bad with the music, but theres more of simon in it, and i love it, we wrote five songs for each other in one day and i ended up making simon have them all. he does them better. he does comics to, he is better at the comics, but the music is just as good to me.

ALPS OF NEW SOUTH WALES

"i cannot be burned, for i, i am made of water."

i got to see chris again recently, we did a show together in the back yard of a friend in sydey, chris of course got the neighbours angry, it always seems to happen, there must be something really piercing about his music, "music that does not obey the rule of walls" i don't hear it. this neighbour was fucking silly and chris sounded very quiet, but it always happens with chris. music this honest is rare and important, hold onto it.

PUMICE

"my heart is broken, sorrow, sorrow, sorrow, sorrow"

somebody sent me pumice on a tape from new zealand filled with other new zealand bands, and it was the first song and it sounded like two teenagers with a drum kit and a broken guitar and a megaphone had decided to make "strange pop". this is broken records from the late 60's, this is personal diaries sung over bastardized gories songs, this is some of the best there is. actually it is one boy named: stefan neville. he has made alot of recordings. damn i want them all. he has been making them since the nineties, i bet they all vomit excellence.

COAMHIM

"he told me that i had a hero's soul"

it's hard to understand why i hate one thing but like another. maybe i need to find it myself? coamhim sounds alot like bands i would otherwise hate, but there is something about it, it seems retarded and special. it reminds me of los angeles myths and drug dealers and stuff. no, the more i listen this has a special strange closeness and rareness about it. if he ever gets slicker at recording or writing lyrics i don't know how i'll feel. sometimes badly done music is the best way. on his page you can see a hate letter to his bank, a mental health court contract and a certificate of achievement for "mainting making a commitment to recovery" yeah i like this rare oddness in music.

COAMHIM

from pheonix, arizona. no records yet.

JOHNNY SAW HORSES

"couldve sworn you where still standing behind me"

me and jess from this band had this conversation the other day, it probably gives you a better idea of what they sound like than anything else could:

scuzzmother: i'm gonna own your tongue.

me: i'm gonna grab yr boobs with my claws and you'll have to drag me around for days.

scuzzmother: i still remember what it was like to have you in my womb.

me: I WISH I'D NEVER LEFT!

then hysterics and heavy gazes we learnt from prince video clips. actually they sound very dramatic, well thought out and fucking great. nothing about what me and jess do together is well thought out.

AIDS WOLF

"We are a cult . Our intentions are unclear. We bring ill will."

i love aids wolf, it's angry man's noise. i'm tired of sitting down when i hear a loud intense lot of noise, i think i would dance to aids wolf, or i could stand getting beat up to aids wolf, they are way cool. they remind me of the bands the older kids at my school used to like that talked about killing people and they scared me. this could be a band that belongs to a cult, except it's too obvious, hell, the vines are more likely to belong to a cult, see aidswolf sound like the horror that a cult is, like the jonestown massacres and stuff, but the vines would actually be a part of that cult, cause they are safe and unsuspected, but completely villianous.

BENOIT PIOULARD

you know the difference between somebody who can't really play and sounds great cause they think harder about what they mean instead of how they sound and somebody who actually puts alot of thought into the songs they make musically? i think ben-wah does both. he probably takes days to record a song, most people i know and love take days to record whole records, this guy is cool to have in the middle of my "do it now right now musicals". it's like climbing a sycamore tree and practising making out on your hand, except you really mean it and your gonna get it right.

SERPENTS OF W.I.S.D.O.M

"she goes where! they don't know! to the subtle world below! take her hand and you will see!"

ancient sad boys trapped with a wand inside a tape machine, living under old recordings they learnt about rythm, but not clarity, goofy and epic i guess is the best way to try and explain what this makes me feel like, it reminds me of swinging upside down from a play set and pretending to be hercules from the disney one, not the arnold schwarzzenegger one (i can't spell his name). it's cool psychadelic sillyness, go forth and devour it. then kill them and live in their tape machine.

A. WALLACE

"there's a little place inside my heart where i can sit a while and stay awhile and wait for all my friends to either go away or pass away."

aaron john wallace, the warmest heart i know, his songs are trilled out in a fine heartbreaking falsetto, the lyrics are so pretty and honest, it's hard to watch him sometimes, alot of people i know have come out crying during his sets, he has a way to get into you and rouse things, things you keep under control so you can complete simply daily tasks, but watching aaron sings i being reminded that it hurts to live and even when you do it right, people are terrible and painful.

A. WALLACE

realeases: Dark Hallways And Other Ghost Songs, self released.

he glues a pouch into the back or front of childrens books and inserts a cd and some lyrics and that is they way he makes his first record.

TICKLEY FEATHER

this stuff is something special, it's got that wonderful quality about it that kicks on a part of your brain thats a lonely kid. at least for me anyways, it trails off like beautiful kinds of smoke and comes back in, sometimes it's just the girl named annie and a preprogramed keyboard track that can do it right. there is a wonderful echo on her voice and while i haven't picked up any of the lyrics from being hypnotized by the thick waft of squiggly melody, i get the primeval feeling they are good:

WICKED HEMLOCKS

"meanwhile across town under a bridge the ceremony started to take place, no one had any idea what was happening right beneath their feet"

see, i'm a real sucker for music like this, it's like an outerspace cartoon, really bright and twisted and stuff, alot of vocal harmonies, running on that francis plagne or ariel pink kick, i mean, i'm not trying to say anything about who they like or listen too, but just that it's got that same nostalgic shift about it that plagne or pink does have. it's recorded with some dirt in it which i like and one of the songs has a great heavy deep voice over it and the voice is saying that thing i quote up there below the picture.

WICKED HEMLOCKS

They are releasing a record called: "quill of the mad" out on "stick in your spokes records" and they are from brooklyn, new york.

PEOPLES COKE

"Peoples Coke is an unpredictable project by Warren Krick."

the name warren krick reminds me of a skinny boy with special glasses and a leg brace, but he probably isn't like that, his stuff right now seems to be a magic mix of calculated silence and also very controlled mouse noises and piano and strings and all kinds of stuff and in my head he records all of this by a river with funny instruments, but you'd better just go and listen to it i think:
